Cornsilk looked out over the fields at the people of her clan, busy working at the harvest. She closed her eyes briefly as a breeze stirred the air, enjoying the feel of its fingers through her hair. Filling her lungs with the sweet-smelling ai, she cast a quick glance back to the village. From where she stood, only the top level of the great house could be seen. Turning her attention back to Sternlight, she realized that he had stopped talking and was gazing blindly at the ground.
"Elder?" she asked quietly. "Elder, what is it?" she pressed, concerned by the continued silence.
"Darkness," he said softly, lifting his small grey head to peer sadly at her. "Darkness awaits us all," he added gravely.
Confused by what Sternlight meant by that statement, Cornsilk looked down, trying to find what had triggered the prophecy. All she could see that was out of place was a strange plant, standing tall between them. "Elder?" she asked, looking back up at her friend. Sternlight only nodded to her before he started walking back to the village. Cornsilk shivered as a cloud passed over the sun, leaving little light and hurried after the elder.
Arwen ran blindly through the streets as fast as her legs could carry her. Sparing a glance behind her, she cursed and ducked into a dark alley. Do they never give up? she thought in frustration as the guards continued their chase. Looking ahead, Arwen cursed once more. Pausing a moment to look back at the men still chasing after her, she dashed over the border, running until her chest screamed in pain. Sobbing softly, Arwen curled up on the ground and slowly drifted to sleep.
ookee, not much of anything here...sumimasen (^_^); The story basically jumps between past and present. I'd give more details, but I really have to run or I'll be late for the concert (^_^)V
